Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar have publicly expressed profound sorrow over the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a respected Arise News anchor.

Sommie, as she was affectionately known, lost her life early Monday, September 29, 2025, during a robbery incident at her home in Abuja’s Katampe district.

Peter Obi’s Tribute: A Call for National Security

In a heartfelt statement shared on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), Peter Obi lamented the loss of the talented 29-year-old broadcaster and lawyer. He described Somtochukwu as a gifted journalist whose voice informed and inspired many Nigerians.
