Security agents deployed tear gas against supporters of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan at the gate of the National Assembly complex in Abuja. The incident occurred during a protest by her backers demanding attention to her ongoing trial.
Eyewitnesses reported that the supporters had gathered peacefully, carrying placards and chanting slogans when the security operatives advanced, ordering dispersal. Tensions escalated quickly as tear gas canisters were deployed, causing chaos and forcing protesters to retreat.

Photographs from the scene show supporters fleeing the area and seeking cover. Some individuals appeared disoriented from the tear gas exposure. At least one protester required medical attention — though there is no confirmation yet of severe injuries.
As of the time of reporting, neither Senator Akpoti’s camp nor security agencies have issued full statements explaining the trigger for the forceful response.
