Nigeria has recorded another milestone on the global stage as Olayinka Babalola, a member of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, has been elected President of Rotary International, the world’s largest humanitarian service organisation, for the 2026/2027 administrative year.
The election followed the resignation of SangKoo Yun, who stepped down on health grounds. Babalola will officially take office on July 1, 2026, making him the second Nigerian and African in Rotary International’s 120-year history to occupy the highly revered position.
President Bola Tinubu, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, hailed the achievement as a significant recognition of Babalola’s contributions both locally and internationally.
Tinubu praised his record of service through the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Rotary International, stating: “Your laudable philanthropic initiatives and relentless pursuit of projects have impacted lives, strengthened communities, and advanced peace, progress, and human dignity.”
The President also pledged government support: “As you prepare to assume office, you can count on our support and encouragement to continue championing humanitarian causes, fostering international partnerships, and promoting the spirit of service to humanity.”
Frontpagenews.ng reports that Tinubu concluded by urging young Nigerians to draw inspiration from Babalola’s global recognition and dedication, which demonstrate that leadership on the world stage is achievable with vision and integrity.
