Peter Obi Tried to Buy My Silence With Envelope of Cash – Adeyanju Claims

Prominent activist, Deji Adeyanju, has disclosed that Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, allegedly attempted to bribe him with cash during a private discussion before the polls.

Adeyanju made the revelation on Friday during an interview on Channels Television while reacting to Obi’s recent threat of legal action against him over alleged defamation.

The activist claimed that Obi persistently reached out to him for a meeting in 2023. When they eventually sat down, Adeyanju said Obi attempted to hand him an envelope with money, which he immediately turned down.

“Yes, in the wake of the 2023 election, Obi persistently sought to meet me. When we finally met, after I had raised issues about corruption allegations and misuse of state resources, he tried to hand me an envelope, saying it was just a small token. I rejected it immediately,” Adeyanju narrated.

He stressed that his engagement with Obi’s political journey was never about loyalty to a party but about uniting the opposition. However, he said Obi’s dismissal of corruption-related concerns and alleged use of state funds for family-linked investments made him lose confidence.

Adeyanju added that his activism has always been anchored on conviction rather than financial incentives.

Reacting to Adeyanju’s claims, Obi’s legal team led by Alex Ejesieme (SAN), had earlier issued a letter of demand, accusing the activist of posting defamatory and misleading content intended to tarnish Obi’s public image.

Political analysts note that the public feud highlights the tensions between politicians and civil society voices ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Frontpagenews.ng reports that this latest clash between Obi and Adeyanju has further polarized supporters, with heated debates across social and mainstream media platforms.
