BREAKING: Umar Damagum Confirmed as Peoples Democratic Party’s National Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday confirmed Umar Damagum as its substantive National Chairman during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

Damagum, who had been serving as Acting Chairman for more than a year, was formally elevated into the role. The official oath of office was conducted by Kamaldeen Ajibade, the National Legal Adviser of the party.

The confirmation comes just months before the PDP’s National Elective Convention, which is scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The convention is regarded as critical in setting the tone for the party’s strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Frontpagenews.ng reports that the NEC gathering also witnessed the attendance of several high-profile stakeholders including party elders and former leaders. The decision to retain Damagum at the helm is seen as a bid to consolidate leadership and promote stability as the PDP works toward electoral resurgence.

The Peoples Democratic Party remains Nigeria’s major opposition platform, and Damagum’s emergence is expected to influence its policy direction, reconciliation efforts, and campaign preparations in the coming months.
