Borussia Dortmund have completed the loan signing of Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka until the end of the season.

Chukwuemeka Joins Dortmund for More Game Time

Dortmund confirmed Chukwuemeka’s arrival before the transfer window closed. The Bundesliga side had identified the 21-year-old as the ideal candidate to play as a No.8, and he will now spend the rest of the season in Germany.

The move provides Chukwuemeka with a chance for regular first-team football. Since joining Chelsea in August 2022, he has made just 32 senior appearances. Dortmund also hold an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Speaking to Dortmund’s official website, Chukwuemeka expressed his excitement:

BVB Sporting Director Excited About Chukwuemeka’s Potential

Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, praised Chukwuemeka’s qualities and highlighted his potential.

“Carney is an extremely talented box-to-box player who caused a sensation in the Premier League at a young age. His dynamism, his drive to the goal, and his assertiveness, coupled with great footballing class, make him an exciting player. He has played for all of England’s youth national teams since the U17s.”

Kehl acknowledged that Chukwuemeka’s progress had stalled at Chelsea but remains confident in his ability to regain form.

“Despite the lack of rhythm, we see a great opportunity in this constellation and hope that Carney will find his old strength again with us.”

Training and Debut Prospects

Chukwuemeka will train with his new Dortmund teammates on Tuesday, and he hopes to make his debut soon. Dortmund will return to Bundesliga action on Saturday against Stuttgart, where he could feature for the first time in yellow and black.
