Tension erupted in Zamfara State as a viral video captured a House of Representatives member being assaulted by a crowd of angry youths, who accused him of failing to serve his constituents.
The incident reportedly took place in Dansadau during what appeared to be a public engagement or official visit.
In the footage making rounds online, Kabiru Mikailu, the lawmaker in question, was seen being dragged, shoved, and even pelted with stones by an agitated crowd. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the community venting years of frustration over what they perceived as the representative’s neglect.
Residents alleged that Mikailu has largely stayed away from the community since his election, missing key events and failing to engage with local families affected by ongoing security challenges. Some pointed to his absence during recent Sallah celebrations and claimed he had not offered support to victims of repeated bandit attacks.
Although security personnel were present at the site, they struggled to contain the escalating unrest. Mikailu was eventually rescued and escorted to safety, reportedly suffering both physical and emotional trauma from the attack.
As of now, neither the Zamfara State Government nor the Nigeria Police Force has issued an official statement regarding the incident or confirmed any arrests.
