Why I Can’t Invest My Money in Upcoming Artistes — Zlatan Ibile

Nigerian rapper Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, popularly known as Zlatan Ibile, has opened up about why he avoids signing or investing in rising artistes, despite being one of the industry’s biggest breakout success stories himself.

Speaking on the Adesope Live Show, Zlatan revealed that the decision is purely business-driven. According to him, putting money into the careers of upcoming artistes has become a high-risk venture with no guaranteed returns.

The Zanku Records boss noted that while he is passionate about music, the industry for him is ultimately a financial pursuit — one aimed at long-term security.

“I’d rather buy a house than put money into an artiste I’m not sure will blow,” he said. “Music, for me, is about financial stability. At the early stage of my career, I wasn’t settled. I went through pressure and a lot of anxiety. So now, my priority is stability.”

Still Open to Collaboration

Although Zlatan is not willing to invest financially, he made it clear that he remains open to collaborations with promising talents.

He said he understands the challenges young artistes face, as he once depended heavily on the support of established acts.

According to him, offering a verse, a feature, or visibility is one way he still gives back to the industry.

‘I Quit Smoking Four Years Ago’

In a separate interaction with fans on Snapchat, the “Bolanle” hitmaker revealed that he gave up smoking about four years ago. The confession came after a curious follower asked if he still indulges.

Zlatan said he frequently receives such questions, but the truth is that he left the habit behind long ago. The rapper added that while quitting was a personal choice for him, he has no issues with people who choose to continue smoking.
