We trained 600 workers in 2022 – SON

More than 600 employees of the Agency received training from the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) in 2022.
Speaking at a celebration of SON’s 50th anniversary, Mallam Farouk Salim, the organization’s director general, stated that approximately 35% of the workforce will have received training by the year 2022.

According to him, “SON has faithfully continued its policy of trade facilitation and promoting Government’s economic policies and agenda” during the past 50 years.

“Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I think it’s crucial that we share our story from 1971 to the present on an occasion like this.

Following the end of the civil war, the nation urgently needed reconstruction and development. This increased need for fit-for-purpose standards of goods and services necessitated the creation of an organization to set and carry out standards regulations.
Act No. 56 of 1971 created the SON, and among its duties was the establishment and approval of standards pertaining to metrology, materials, commodities, structures, and processes.
Salim added,

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our development partners and stakeholders in the public and private sectors who have stood with us over the previous fifty years for their cooperation and support. Without your unwavering support over the years, I’m sure the path would have been more challenging.
He praised the accomplishments and advancements of SON over the previous 50 years, saying, “In the next 50 years, I envision this organization becoming the premier standardization body in Africa and among the top ranking organizations worldwide.”
In honor of SON’s 50 years as a standards regulator for Nigerians, the organization has implemented a number of programs, including this one.
