The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a new Digital Certificate Services System, branded WAEC DigiCert, for candidates across its five member countries—Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Demianus Ojijeogu, on behalf of the Registrar.
According to WAEC, the DigiCert platform is a mobile and web-based application designed to simplify access to examination certificates. The system allows users to access, request, confirm and securely share digital versions of their original WAEC certificates, while also enabling candidates to recover lost examination numbers.
The Council assured stakeholders that the platform is secure and reliable, noting that the authenticity of all digital certificates is guaranteed and that users will benefit from reduced costs and faster processing times.
WAEC disclosed that the initiative followed a successful pilot phase in Nigeria, which attracted positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions both locally and internationally. It encouraged candidates, schools and other stakeholders to adopt the platform to eliminate delays and administrative challenges commonly associated with manual certificate issuance and collection.
However, WAEC clarified that the introduction of DigiCert does not replace the traditional printing and issuance of physical certificates, which will continue as usual.
The Council added that the WAEC DigiCert mobile application is available for download on the App Store and Google Play Store for iOS and Android users, while additional information can be accessed through its official website and social media channels.
Meanwhile, WAEC also announced the release of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for private candidates. Candidates are advised to first check their results via the WAEC Direct portal before proceeding to the WAEC website to access their digital certificate copies where applicable.
