VIDEO: Former Governor Wike Participates in Rivers LG Elections Amid Tight Security

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and immediate past governor of Rivers State, has voted in the local government elections taking place across the state.

Wike was seen in a widely circulated video casting his ballot at Polling Unit 007 in Ward 9, Rumuepirikom community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The minister’s appearance at the polling center drew significant attention from both voters and political observers.

The Rivers State elections are being conducted in all 23 LGAs (Local Government Areas), covering 319 wards and nearly 7,000 polling units. The process comes months after the Supreme Court annulled the October 2024 polls previously conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

To prevent unrest, a heavy deployment of police officers, military personnel, and other security agencies has been observed across the state. Residents were seen trooping out early in the morning to exercise their franchise despite concerns of voter apathy in some regions.

Frontpagenews.ng reports that many polling stations opened on time, and electoral officers were present to guide voters through the process, although minor delays were recorded in certain areas.
