Taiwo-Hassan

Popular Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has opened up about a harrowing seven-year struggle with chronic ulcer, describing it as one of the most difficult periods of his life.

In a recent interview, the Yoruba movie star revealed that the illness, which was first diagnosed after he experienced intense chest pains, left him physically drained, unable to eat solid food, and vomiting blood for several months.

“I Could Only Eat Pap for Months”

Ogogo recalled that the health ordeal began unexpectedly while he was on his way to a movie location. “I don’t smoke or take weed. I was going to a film location one day when I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my chest that shot through to my back. Within five minutes, I became very uncomfortable,” he said.

According to the actor, although he was accompanied by a friend at the time, the person could not drive. Somehow, they managed to reach the movie set where actress Remi Surutu saw his condition and suspected it might be an ulcer.

The next day, I went to the hospital and that was when I was diagnosed with chronic ulcer,” Ogogo recounted.

The diagnosis marked the beginning of a long and painful health crisis. “For seven good years, I battled with this illness. For seven months straight, I was vomiting blood. I couldn’t stand to pray; I had to sit. I couldn’t eat anything but pap. That was my only source of nourishment.”

Journey Through Pain and Recovery

Throughout the seven-year period, Ogogo said he sought help from both medical and alternative sources, moving from one form of treatment to another in search of relief.

He noted that while the illness took a heavy toll on his physical health and career, he remained deeply grateful for the support he received from friends, colleagues, and well-wishers who stood by him during the dark times.

It was a terrible time in my life,” he reflected. “But I thank the men and women who supported me. I wasn’t going to film locations often, but I never sold any of my properties.”

Despite his prolonged absence from some movie sets, Ogogo said he maintained a sense of hope and gratitude. “I kept praying and trusting that I would get better. I didn’t give up.”

A Story of Strength and Resilience

Now on the path to full recovery, the respected actor is using his experience to encourage others to prioritize their health and listen to their bodies when something feels wrong.

Ogogo’s story is a testament to resilience, willpower, and the importance of early medical intervention. His experience also sheds light on the serious impact ulcers can have on a person’s quality of life, especially when left untreated.

Over the years, Ogogo has remained a household name in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba cinema, where his roles often reflect wisdom, strength, and moral depth. His battle with illness reveals the real-life strength behind his screen persona.

While many fans remember him for his tough roles in movies, Ogogo’s candid revelation adds a deeply personal dimension to his public life—a reminder that behind every star lies a human story of endurance, struggle, and triumph.
