Unrest: APC support group reiterates demand to remove NSA and service chiefs

President Buhari

A support organization for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alarmed by the level of insecurity in the nation, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to fire all of the service chiefs and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), right away.

According to the group, with the current state of security in the nation, it is vital that Monguno and the service chiefs be fired, along with completely reorganizing the security architecture of the country.

The APC group, which operates under the APC Justice and Unity Forum (APC-JUF), released a statement on Thursday that outlined its stance. The statement was signed by Dr. Muhammadu Kabiru, the group’s national president, who charged the president with listening to the demands of the majority of Nigerians, who, it noted, feel that those tasked with maintaining the country’s security have failed miserably.
In order to prevent Nigeria from collapsing completely, it made an appeal to the president of the Senate, state governors, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the head of the APC National Committee, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively.

According to the APC-JUF, the president needs to respond quickly to their requests in order to prevent his party from suffering a crushing electoral loss since Nigerians are eager to vent their resentment against them during the upcoming general elections in 2023.

We, the members of the APC support group operating under the auspices of the APC Justice and Unity Forum, wish to demand that new hands be tried for new ideas and strategies in light of the worsening insecurity plaguing our nation despite the large sums of money that have been injected into our security forces thus far without results.

The organization stated, “To this end, security architecture reforms are urgently needed, starting with the removal of all service chiefs and National Security Advisor, Major Gen. Babagana Monguno (Rtd).”

The group claims that “if our dear President is serious about holding the general elections in 2023, then addressing security challenges in advance of the highly anticipated national exercise is imperative.”
The APC support group asserted, “Every day he keeps the current service chiefs in office, the very foundation of Nigeria continues to crack due to worsening insecurity.”
In spite of the support given to them by the federal government led by Buhari, the political group questioned “why the President has refused to hear the cry of all Nigerians on the need to sack the NSA and the service chiefs who have failed in all ramifications to restore security in Nigeria.”

Why can’t you touch them? Why does the president think better of these people than the whole nation? It raged.
The group said that the president was receiving incorrect advice from the security managers since if he had, he would have been aware of the actual situation.
In actuality, our nation—particularly the North, from whence the President hails—is in extremely terrible shape, the worst in Nigerian history.

“We would like the president to understand that the current state of insecurity has reduced our party’s chances in the upcoming general elections by 70%. If action is not taken quickly before the campaigns begin, Nigerians may express their displeasure with our party at the polls, which would be unfortunate,” the statement stated.

The committee acknowledged that “tackling this insecurity is not rocket science,” but added that “just genuine commitment and professionalism” were needed to solve the issue.

“With dedicated and diligent police, the insecurity can be overcome in a matter of weeks or months.

“The fact is that insecurity has brought the masses in Nigeria to a breaking point, and if something is not done immediately, they may soon express their rage.” the group affirmed.

As a matter of urgent national importance, the statement went on, “We, therefore, call on the National Chairman of our great party, the APC, governors, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to immediately advise the president to rejig the security architecture in the interest of Nigeria and the fortune of our great party in the general elections of 2023.”
Remember that the organization had demanded in a similar statement released on July 27, 2022, that President Buhari reorganize the whole security architecture in addition to firing NSA Monguno and the service chiefs.
In the statement, Kabiru clarified that his group’s stance was the result of an assessment of the nation’s status, particularly with regard to the safety of people and property, that was held in Abuja earlier.

“Those tasked with safeguarding our country would have known better that the terrorists mean business and would have strengthened intelligence and coordinated their agencies to prevent the frequent attacks on citizens and critical national infrastructure given the antecedents of the terrorists, which we as laymen in security have already known.”

“We think the best thing for the president to do now is to relieve the NSA of his position and try another security expert with fresh ideas,” the group had stated. “These bold and daring activities of the terrorists in Abuja and other areas across the country without prior knowledge of our security services have shown that our intelligence failure is obvious.”

The group pointed out that under Monguno, the nation’s security management had gotten worse and requested the president to consider someone else for the Office of the NSA based only on talent, commitment, and track record and not on ethnic or religious backgrounds.

Therefore, the Forum asked President Buhari to remove Monguno and select someone who has the necessary ability, competence, and bravery to put the country’s security architecture on the correct track in order to prevent further collapse.
It served as a reminder to President Buhari that the nation voted for him in part because of his promise to address insecurity, and that it is absurd that a single appointee of his has damaged his reputation in the eyes of the people.

“Monguno has demonstrated a lack of understanding of the current issues facing the country, and his inability to organize and coordinate strategic actions that will see to the end of insecurity is one that should now be a source of worry for Nigerians,” the statement reads. “This comes at a time when the country most needed competence.”

“Our forum, APCJUF, demands that President Muhammadu Buhari immediately remove Babagana Monguno from his position as National Security Adviser (NSA) in order to allow those who possess the necessary ability, skill, and bravery to take over and promptly steer the country’s security architecture in the right direction,” the statement stated, based on the aforementioned.
