FG launches e-yellow card, old card expires on April 1

The federal government has introduced an electronic yellow card for international travelers departing from Nigeria, set to replace the old version starting April 1st this year.

The yellow card serves as the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis.

According to the federal ministry of health, individuals seeking the e-yellow card must register on the official website and pay a fee of N2,000.

After payment, applicants need to bring the receipt along with their international passport to a port health services office to receive the required vaccination, completing the process.

The ministry stated that the card will be ready within an hour after vaccination and that travelers must be vaccinated at least 10 days prior to departure.

August 1, 2018, marked the official expiration of the old yellow card and the start of the e-yellow card issuance. The electronic card, which can store vaccination history and is machine-readable, aims to eliminate the issuance of fake yellow cards by unauthorized personnel.

The ministry also noted that the yellow card has become an essential travel document, with several embassies requiring it for visa applications.
