Popular Nollywood actress and political figure, Tonto Dikeh, has shared a deeply personal testimony detailing her journey to spiritual and personal freedom after years of battling anger, substance abuse and other private struggles.
The outspoken movie star opened up during a recent Sunday service at Streams of Joy International Church, where she delivered her testimony before worshippers at the altar. The church is led by renowned cleric, Pastor Jerry Eze.
In her emotional address, Tonto revealed that she was introduced to smoking at a very young age, a habit that followed her well into adulthood. She also spoke candidly about long-standing struggles with alcohol and masturbation, describing them as spiritual battles that only ended through intense prayer and divine intervention.
According to the actress, stepping forward to share her story was not an easy decision, as she briefly considered holding back out of fear of public perception. However, she said she ultimately chose honesty over image, insisting that her transformation was more important than maintaining appearances.
Reflecting on her past, Tonto disclosed that she had lived with uncontrollable anger for years, an issue she said negatively affected her relationships and personal life. She explained that her participation in the church’s NSPPD prayer platform marked a turning point, bringing an end to what she described as “demonic anger” and replacing it with inner calm.
She also recounted a significant spiritual experience following her attendance at the Ghana Prayer Conference, saying she noticed a sudden shift in recurring spiritual attacks that had plagued her since childhood. According to her, the disturbing dreams and feelings of captivity she once experienced simply stopped.
Tonto further revealed that true peace had been absent from her life until recently, despite her success and public status. Now 40, she said she is experiencing a sense of peace she had never known before.
Addressing her decades-long smoking habit, the actress explained that it lasted nearly 27 years and began through early exposure at home. Using her story as a warning, she advised parents to be mindful of the habits they display around their children, noting how easily such behaviours can influence young minds.
