Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has revealed that she once doubted the potential of “Dorobucci,” a song that later became one of the biggest hits under Mavin Records.
Speaking during a recent interview, Savage disclosed that she initially thought the track was not impressive, describing it in her words as a “crap song.”
According to her, she struggled to understand the appeal of the record at the time it was produced.
“I honestly thought ‘Dorobucci’ was not going to work. I didn’t get it. I remember saying to myself, ‘This song is crap,’” she said.
The song, produced by Don Jazzy and released in 2014, went on to achieve widespread popularity and became an anthem across Africa.
It featured top Mavin acts including Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, Tiwa Savage, Korede Bello, D’Prince, Di’Ja, and Reekado Banks.
Savage, who was signed to Mavin Records during that period, noted that despite her early skepticism, the song’s commercial success proved her wrong.
She admitted that its massive reception by fans and its longevity in the industry later changed her opinion.
