Tinubu Mourns Fallen Soldiers, Hails ‘Unforgettable Heroes’ After Borno Attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of Nigerian troops following a deadly terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The soldiers, drawn from the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, were reportedly killed during a coordinated assault by insurgents in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026.

In a statement, the President described the fallen troops as “unforgettable and irreplaceable heroes,” praising their bravery in defending the nation against terrorist forces.

He extended condolences to the Armed Forces and the bereaved families, urging them to remain strong in the face of the tragic loss. Tinubu also commended the soldiers’ resilience, noting that they fought valiantly to repel the attackers and protect surrounding communities from being overrun.

According to him, the attack reflects the desperation of insurgents amid intensified military operations targeting their strongholds.

“Our armed forces have continued sustained land and air offensives, neutralising many insurgents and their commanders. This counterattack is a sign of desperation,” the President said.

He assured that the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers would not be in vain, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace across the country.

Tinubu also called on military leadership and frontline troops not to lose morale, encouraging them to remain steadfast in their duty.

“The government will continue to support the Armed Forces with the necessary equipment and ensure the welfare of all personnel risking their lives for our safety,” he added.

The President further appealed to Nigerians and the media to support the military’s ongoing operations and refrain from actions that could undermine their efforts.

He also extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, pledging continued collaboration to achieve total victory over insurgency and secure long-term stability in the region.
