Tinubu Mourns as Chimamanda Adichie Loses Son

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed heartfelt condolences to celebrated author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, following the tragic loss of their young son.

In a personally signed statement released on Thursday, the President said he deeply empathises with the family’s pain, noting that he understands the weight of such a loss from personal experience.

He described the death of a child as one of life’s most unbearable tragedies and offered prayers for strength and comfort during the family’s time of mourning.

Tinubu said he shares in the family’s grief and stands with them as they navigate the difficult period. He praised Adichie as a global literary figure whose works have inspired and uplifted countless people across the world, adding that he hopes the family finds solace and resilience through faith.

The President concluded by assuring the family of his thoughts and prayers as they grieve their devastating loss.

It will be recalled that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr Ivara Esege recently lost one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi. The 21-month-old reportedly passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, after a brief illness.
