President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir. In a statement released on Thursday, June 5, 2025, the President emphasized the profound spiritual and civic significance of the Islamic festival, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to economic renewal, national unity, and sustainable progress.
A Message of Celebration and Reflection
In his Eid message, President Tinubu congratulated Nigerian Muslims and the global Muslim Ummah, describing Eid-el-Kabir as a period that goes beyond festive cheer to convey deep spiritual lessons.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Nigerian Muslims and the global Muslim Ummah as we celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir,” he said. “This sacred festival marks the climax of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah — days filled with immense opportunities for worship and good deeds.”
President Tinubu noted that the occasion provides a chance for reflection and gratitude to Almighty Allah for His continuous mercy and blessings. He encouraged all Nigerians to recognize the true essence of Eid, which lies not just in joy, but in sacrifice, faith, and devotion.
Embracing Values That Strengthen the Nation
The President used the opportunity to remind citizens of the deeper meaning of Eid-el-Kabir, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering devotion to God.
“While this festival is marked with joy and celebration, its true significance lies much deeper: Eid calls us to reflect on its core values of sacrifice, devotion, and selflessness,” Tinubu said.
Beyond religious values, he highlighted the festival’s civic lessons: “Eid-el-Kabir also reminds us of our responsibilities beyond faith — to show resilience, tolerance, compassion, and dedication to the progress of our beloved country.”
He stressed the importance of national unity and compassion, especially in the context of the difficult choices his administration has made to reposition the country.
Reforms and National Progress: A New Era of Hope
President Tinubu used the occasion to update Nigerians on the nation’s journey through reforms and the resulting challenges. He acknowledged the pain that citizens have endured due to economic adjustments but assured them that the most difficult days were now behind.
“Together, we have weathered challenging times and are approaching a brighter horizon,” Tinubu said. “Though the journey has not been easy, and some doubted our direction, the resilience of public and private sector leaders, along with the steadfast support of most Nigerians, is yielding results.”
He maintained that the administration remains committed to rebuilding Nigeria’s economic foundation in ways that would bring long-term prosperity to all citizens.
“We are entering a new era of renewed hope and prosperity that we promised two years ago,” he said. “We may not yet be where we aspire to be, but I urge all Nigerians not to lose hope. Let us hold on to our faith and persevere.”
According to the President, reforms are gaining traction and key economic indicators are beginning to improve, setting the stage for widespread benefits.
Putting People First: The Core of Economic Reforms
Tinubu reassured citizens that the objective of the government’s reforms is not merely to improve statistics but to make tangible improvements in people’s lives.
“The ultimate objective of these reforms is not just to improve statistics but to transform lives and set Nigeria firmly on the path to sustainable development,” he emphasized. “There are no quick fixes, but we are committed to repairing the foundations of our economy once and for all.”
He noted that his administration would continue acting in the national interest, ensuring that the progress recorded at the macro level translates into better living conditions for everyday Nigerians.
“Our administration will continue acting in the nation’s best interest, ensuring that the gains we are recording translate into improving people’s lives,” he stated.
Renewed Hope Agenda: A Commitment to National Prosperity
President Tinubu reiterated his unwavering dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda — the administration’s flagship development blueprint. He urged all Nigerians to embrace the spirit of Eid by spreading love, compassion, and generosity.
“We crafted our Renewed Hope Agenda to bring prosperity to every Nigerian, and we remain steadfast in our pursuit of it,” he declared. “As we celebrate today, remember that Eid-el-Kabir enjoins love, compassion, and generosity for all, regardless of faith or background.”
He called on Nigerians to use the season to show care and concern for others, stressing the need for a united and empathetic society.
“Let us care for one another’s well-being during this season and always,” Tinubu urged.
Mourning and Solidarity: Addressing the Niger State Flood
In a somber reflection on recent national events, President Tinubu expressed sadness over the devastating floods that hit Mokwa in Niger State on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The flooding submerged a major market town, claimed lives, and destroyed property.
“In this instance, I recall recent sad developments in our country, particularly the heavy flooding that submerged Mokwa, Niger State, causing deaths and destruction,” he said. “Let us pray for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and fortitude for their relations. Let us join hands with the government to bring succour to the people of Mokwa.”
He called on Nigerians to demonstrate unity and support for the affected communities during their time of need.
A Call for National Prayer and Unity
Concluding his Eid-el-Kabir message, President Tinubu appealed for continued national prayers — for security personnel, for leaders at every level, and for peace in Nigeria and around the world.
“Finally, as we observe this Eid, let us continue our prayers for our front-line officers, who risk their lives for our safety and security,” he said. “Let us pray for our leaders at all levels and our country. Let us pray for peace in our tumultuous world of troubles and uncertainties.”
He urged Nigerians to use the Eid celebration as a moment of collective spiritual reflection, seeking divine guidance and blessings for the country’s continued journey toward peace and progress.
“Let us dedicate this sacred celebration to seeking God’s guidance and blessings for our country,” Tinubu concluded.
Public Holiday and Observance
The Eid-el-Kabir celebration is scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2025. In observance of the festival, the federal government has declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, as public holidays to allow for full participation and reflection during the religious observance.
