After Sir Monty FC protested the improper fielding of six unregistered players by J Atete Fc Jr. in their Week 2 match, the Nigerian Nationwide League board gave them three points and three goals.
After finding J Atete Jr. guilty of fielding unregistered players for the March 23, 2022, match against Sir Monty Fc, the board invoked Article 3.01(7) of the rules in a letter signed by the league’s chief operating officer, Mr. Ogunshola Ogunnowo, and sent to the secretary of the Delta State Football Association, with copies sent to all Nigerian Nationwide League One clubs.
Following today’s ruling, the game that had previously concluded 2-0 in favor of J Atete Jr. at Delta State’s Ughelli Township Stadium will now read and apply as J Atete Jr. 0-3 Sir Monty Fc.
Sir Monty Fc now leads Group D1 in the standings as a consequence of the outcome. As a result, the Akwa Ibom state team has seven points from three games (two away and one at home).
Prince Ukeme Ukpong, the chairman of the Sir Monty Football Club, praised the league board for their swift and fair decision to hold the protest in an exclusive interview with Sportsration following the NLO Board’s ruling.
I have to applaud the NLO Board for their swift and fair resolution of our protest over J Atete Jnr fielding Unregistered Players for our Matchday two encounter in Ughelli
This choice puts us at the top of the rankings and adds to the joy of winning our first-ever home game yesterday. Knowing that we have won all three of our games is a unique experience for a young team like ours. Finally, Prince Ukeme Ukpong said.
In addition to giving Sir Monty Fc the points, the NLO Board has strongly warned J Atete Fc to refrain from any actions that could damage the league’s reputation.
