Tell Nigerians the Truth About Change of Service Chiefs, ADC Tells Tinubu

2027: Why Jandor Says Tinubu Is Set for a Walkover

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide a clear and honest explanation to Nigerians over the sudden change of the nation’s Service Chiefs.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, the party said while it recognizes the President’s constitutional authority to appoint or replace military chiefs, Nigerians deserve to know the true reasons behind the abrupt decision.

The statement, signed by the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Bamidele Ajadi, urged the President to allay public concerns surrounding the move, which came amid widespread rumours of internal tension within the military hierarchy.

“The ADC demands that President Tinubu tell Nigerians the truth behind the recent changes in the leadership of the Armed Forces. This is necessary to dispel speculation and ensure transparency in governance,” the statement read.

‘Change Should Reflect Stability, Not Confusion’

The opposition party said it is deeply concerned that such sweeping changes at a sensitive time could create uncertainty within the security structure. It warned that leadership transitions in the Armed Forces must be handled with clarity to maintain national confidence.

“While the President reserves the power to appoint or dismiss Service Chiefs, the manner and timing of these changes must promote confidence and stability, not confusion or fear,” the ADC added.

Call For Accountability

The ADC further stated that transparency in national security matters is crucial to sustaining public trust, especially as the country continues to battle terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity.

The party therefore urged the President to provide Nigerians with concrete explanations and assurances that the reshuffle was done in the interest of national security and not for political reasons.

“Nigerians have the right to know the real reasons behind such major decisions. Silence or half-truths only breed rumours and weaken public faith in government institutions,” the statement concluded.

In The Beginning

President Tinubu recently announced a major shake-up of Nigeria’s security leadership, replacing the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chiefs of Army, Navy, and Air Staff, as well as other senior officers.

The Presidency described the move as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the country’s security architecture, but the ADC insists that more transparency is needed to clarify the motivations behind the changes.
