Sevilla have completed the club-record signing of French defender Jules Kounde from Bordeaux for a reported fee of €25 million ($28.2 million), the club announced on Wednesday.

Kounde, 20, has agreed to a five-year contract with the La Liga side, committing his future to the club until 2024. Sevilla confirmed the deal after the defender arrived in Seville on Tuesday night and successfully passed his medical on Wednesday morning.

“The defender, who arrived yesterday night in Seville, passed a medical in the morning before signing a contract with his new team until 2024,” read an official statement from the club.

Kounde, who can also play as a full-back, made 55 Ligue 1 appearances for Bordeaux since his first-team debut in January 2018 and has been capped by France at the under-20 level.

His signing continues a busy summer for Sevilla, who have now added five players to their squad since Monchi returned as sporting director and ahead of new coach Julen Lopetegui’s first season in charge. Sevilla have already secured the signings of Luuk de Jong, Munas Dabbur, Diego Carlos, and Joan Jordan as they look to build on their sixth-place finish in La Liga last season.
