Speed Darlington Placed on NAPTIP Watchlist Over Alleged Sexual Activity With Minor

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has revealed that Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington has been placed on a security watchlist following allegations that he engaged in sexual activity with a minor.

This update was shared by Mrs. Ijeoma Amugo, NAPTIP’s Director of Legal and Prosecution, during a media briefing in Abuja to kick off the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

According to Amugo, the entertainer—popularly known as Akpi—came under scrutiny after appearing in an Instagram Live video in which he allegedly boasted about having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

She said investigators invited him to clarify the claims, but he repeatedly ignored their summons.

Instead of cooperating, the agency said Speed Darlington took to social media to lash out at NAPTIP and accuse the organization of infringing on his rights.

“He attempted to get ahead of the investigation by going online to discredit us and publicly insisting he would not honour our invitation,” Amugo explained. “We made efforts to physically serve him and locate him, which is necessary for due process, but he was nowhere to be found at his known addresses.”

She added that the agency later received intelligence suggesting the rapper had already departed Nigeria.

“Our latest information indicates he is currently outside the country. For that reason, we have placed him on the watchlist. Once he returns, we will resume the investigation from the point where it was stalled,” Amugo said.

She confirmed that NAPTIP has had no direct communication with him since the development and that the case remains open pending his return to Nigeria.
