Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Seyi Law, has lashed out at Shehu Abubakar, son of former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, after Shehu described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “drug baron.”

The fiery exchange erupted on social media platform 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) following comments made by Shehu while reacting to a controversial statement by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently referred to Nigeria as a “disgraced country.”

Trump’s Remark Sparks Outrage

Trump’s comments came during a speech in which he reportedly threatened possible U.S. intervention in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

His choice of words — branding Nigeria “a now disgraced country” — triggered widespread backlash and ignited the hashtag #DisgracedCountry, which trended for hours as Nigerians debated the insult.

Shehu Abubakar: ‘We Chose a Drug Baron as President’

Amid the online uproar, Shehu Abubakar weighed in, asserting that Nigerians had no moral right to be offended by Trump’s comments.

He wrote: “Why are some upset that Donald Trump called us disgraceful? When they announced a drug baron as our President, what do you call that? Prideful? I know it hurts our pride as a nation but we have to first look inwards and hold ourselves accountable before we accuse outsiders.”

His statement immediately drew criticism from supporters of President Tinubu, many of whom accused Shehu of disrespecting the presidency and promoting false narratives.

Seyi Law Fires Back, Cites Atiku’s Past Scandals

In a sharp response, comedian Seyi Law — a well-known supporter of President Tinubu — blasted Shehu for his remarks, accusing him of hypocrisy and referencing long-standing corruption allegations involving his father.

Seyi Law posted: “This is coming from someone whose father was called a thief by his principal and indicted as a money launderer in the U.S. Someone whose father deleted his handler’s tweet about the extra-judicial killing of Deborah. Na really wa.”

The comedian’s tweet has since gone viral, attracting thousands of reactions and reigniting political tensions online between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
