See Details Of President Tinubu’s Meeting With Army Chief Waidi Shaibu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid growing security concerns across several parts of the country.

After the meeting, Lt. Gen. Shaibu addressed State House correspondents, assuring Nigerians that the military is intensifying operations to strengthen security and restore calm in troubled regions.

“Improved security across the country,” Shaibu said briefly when asked what Nigerians should expect in the coming weeks.

Army Chief Briefs Tinubu on North-East Operations

The Army Chief explained that his meeting with the President focused on the outcomes of his recent operational tour of the North-East, where Nigerian troops have continued to confront insurgent groups.

“I came to brief him on the outcome of my visit to the North-East and then look at other security situations across the country, which was satisfactory within this period,” Shaibu stated.

He disclosed that his assessment revealed encouraging progress in counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations.

According to him, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with sister security agencies, remains fully committed to protecting lives and ensuring stability across all regions.

Ongoing Operations Yield Results

Although he did not reveal operational details, Shaibu’s comments come at a time when the military has reportedly achieved major breakthroughs against armed groups. Recent air strikes by the Nigerian Air Force in Borno, Katsina, and Kwara States were said to have neutralized hundreds of terrorists hiding in forest enclaves.

Security sources say the renewed joint offensives have disrupted several insurgent camps and supply routes, leading to the recovery of weapons and the rescue of civilians held hostage by militants.

The Army Chief reaffirmed that the Nigerian Armed Forces are determined to sustain the momentum until total peace and security are restored nationwide.

“We are working closely with all security agencies to ensure Nigerians can live and move freely without fear,” he said.

As the dry season sets in—a period often associated with increased movement of insurgents and bandits—the military’s intensified operations are expected to further shape the country’s security outlook heading into 2026.
