PSC Extends Nigeria Police Recruitment Deadline to Feb 8

The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has announced a two-week extension of the ongoing recruitment exercise for 50,000 police constables after an overwhelming response from applicants nationwide.

According to reports, more than 400,000 applications have already been submitted since the recruitment portal opened on December 15, 2025. The application window, which was initially scheduled to close earlier, will now remain open until February 8, 2026.

The PSC explained that the decision to extend the deadline followed an internal assessment that revealed uneven participation across states. While states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded strong application numbers, others—including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra—showed relatively low turnout.

The commission said the extension is intended to promote balanced representation from all parts of the country and give eligible candidates in low-participation states additional time to apply.

In a statement released on Monday, the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Njoku Kalu, urged qualified Nigerians—particularly those in underrepresented states—to take advantage of the extended period and submit their applications.

She also called on state and local governments, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community heads and sociocultural groups to step up awareness campaigns and encourage interested applicants before the new deadline.

The PSC reaffirmed that the recruitment process would remain transparent, fair and strictly merit-based, adding that all stages of the exercise would be conducted in accordance with established guidelines.
