Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, over multiple criminal allegations, including assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest.
The musician was brought before the court on Monday to answer a nine-count charge filed by the Ogun State Police Command.
According to the police, the charges stem from a series of incidents allegedly involving Portable and several individuals, including his estranged partner, actress and content creator Ashabi Simple.
Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said that the case followed complaints linked to an alleged assault that occurred on New Year’s Day at Portable’s bar located in the Iyana Ilogbo area of the state. The police claimed the singer attacked Ashabi, along with some police officers and other individuals present at the venue.
Portable’s court appearance came shortly after a video showing him in police custody circulated widely on social media on Sunday. The footage was reportedly connected to a formal complaint filed by Ashabi Simple, who accused the singer of physical assault.
Beyond the assault allegations, the prosecution also accused Portable of unlawfully taking a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million. The vehicle allegedly belonged to Ileyemi Damilola and was said to have been obtained through a car dealer, Wally Dex Auto.
Several individuals were listed as victims in the case, including Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
During the court proceedings, Ashabi Simple was absent, but her siblings appeared as witnesses and gave testimony regarding the alleged assault. The police further accused Portable of obstructing and physically attacking a female police officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
After listening to the testimonies, the presiding judge declined to grant the singer bail. The court ruled that the alleged assaulted police officer must appear before a decision on bail could be made. As a result, Portable was remanded in custody, with the bail hearing adjourned until January 19.
