A widely followed TikTok content creator, Ishaq Abubakar Major, has been arrested in Abuja by operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) over a viral video accusing Senator Shehu Umar Buba (Bauchi South) of associations with bandit groups.
Authorities apprehended Major at the Maraba-Nyanya junction as he was traveling in the FCT capital. He is currently being held at the FCID headquarters pending investigation.
In his social media posts, Major alleged that Senator Buba had compromised links with bandits terrorising parts of Nigeria, including claims of facilitating peace deals or acting as a sponsor.
The arrest followed a series of videos and posts on TikTok in which Major alleged that Senator Buba was compromised and unfit for public office because of alleged connections with armed criminal gangs.
In one of the viral clips, Major reportedly said: “This newspaper (SaharaReporters) described Senator Buba as a senator that has a relationship with bandits. What I want people to understand is that Senator Shehu Buba is a senator from Bauchi.
“There is no newspaper that would publish false allegations against him without taking them to court, because he has the money to do so, and he also has ambition of governorship.

“But because he knows the allegations are not false, that is why he has not gone to court. Up until now, he has not spoken about it because he knows that if he speaks, evidence will be brought forward, and it will affect his ambition to become the Governor of Bauchi State.”
As of now, the Nigerian Police Force has not released an official statement confirming the reasons for his arrest or whether any charges of defamation have been formally filed.
