President Muhammadu Buhari met behind closed doors with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday. Emefiele was seen entering the President’s office around noon and left after less than ten minutes.
Emefiele, who was recently given an extension of his tenure, did not address the media regarding the purpose of the meeting. The meeting took place shortly after an audio leak surfaced, reportedly featuring the CBN Governor discussing a failed business deal.
Although the CBN issued a statement on Sunday denying any loss of over N500 billion in private investments, it remains unclear if this controversy prompted the meeting. No official statement has been released by the presidency regarding the details of their discussion.
