Less than a week after the suspension of the Osogbo South Local Council Development Area Chairman, another local government leader in Osun, Munirudeen Anisu of Olorunda Local Government, has been suspended by the council’s parliament over accusations of financial mismanagement.
Anisu was suspended on Monday after failing to respond to allegations of “financial misconduct and misappropriation” made against him by the council.
A resolution, signed by four of the seven elected councillors—Inaolaji Waheed, Nurudeen Akinrinde, Olawore Sulaiman, and Oyeyemi Halimat—revealed that the chairman did not provide a response to the allegations seven days after being notified.
The letter stated: “Following the allegations presented to Hon. Munirudeen Anisu, Chairman of Olorunda Local Government, no response has been given regarding the claims of financial misconduct.”
According to the council’s rules, a time frame was set for fair hearing, but the chairman did not provide an explanation for the concerns raised. As a result, the parliament passed a resolution on December 30, 2019, to suspend Anisu until he can address and clear the accusations.
The resolution also stipulated that Inaolaji Waheed, the vice-chairman, would take over the leadership of the Local Government temporarily, pending approval from the Osun State House of Assembly.
The councillors clarified that the suspension followed the standing rules of the Osun State House of Assembly, as outlined in the laws governing Local Government Areas and Council Development Areas.
