World heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua was reportedly involved in a road accident on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Makun in Ogun State.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred on a heavily trafficked section of the highway when the vehicle carrying the former world champion collided with another car. Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the crash, and investigations are ongoing.

One of the witnesses, who participated in the rescue efforts and spoke with Punch, revealed that Joshua sustained only minor injuries. However, the accident proved fatal for two other individuals, who were pronounced dead at the scene.

As of the time this report was filed, there had been no official confirmation or statement from Anthony Joshua’s management team or family regarding the incident.

The reported crash comes shortly after Joshua made headlines for a completely different reason following his recent bout with American boxer and social media personality Jake Paul.

Earlier, on Friday, December 26, Jake Paul’s mother, Pam Stepnick, disclosed that Joshua personally reached out to her to apologise after Paul suffered a broken jaw during the fight. Speaking during an appearance on the Impaulsive podcast, Stepnick praised Joshua’s conduct, describing him as thoughtful and respectful in the aftermath of the match.

She recounted how the Nigerian-born boxing star navigated through the crowd to speak with her directly, offering words of reassurance. “He came up to me and said, ‘Mum, just know it’s just boxing. It’s part of the fight game,’” she recalled.

While commending Joshua’s show of sportsmanship, Stepnick expressed strong criticism of his promoter, Eddie Hearn. She accused Hearn of appearing unconcerned about her son’s injuries, a reaction she described as deeply upsetting.
