Peter Obi Expresses Worry Over Accident Involving Anthony Joshua in Ogun

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has reacted to reports of a road accident involving Nigerian-British boxing star Anthony Joshua in Makun, Ogun State, describing the incident as deeply disturbing.

According to the reports, the former heavyweight boxing champion was involved in a crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The accident was said to have claimed two lives, while Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries.

In his reaction, Obi said the incident raised serious concerns, particularly as it allegedly occurred during Joshua’s visit to Nigeria. He also drew attention to claims that emergency response was slow, with no ambulance immediately available to take the boxer to a hospital after the crash.

While wishing Joshua a quick and full recovery, Obi expressed sadness over the loss of lives in the incident. He offered his condolences to the affected families and prayed for strength and comfort for them in their time of grief.

“It is with deep concern that I received the news of the road accident involving former heavyweight boxing champion, Mr. Anthony Joshua, in Makun, Ogun State,” Obi said. “It is especially troubling that this happened while he was in Nigeria, and many of us are forced to reflect on reports that there was no ambulance readily available to convey him to the hospital.”

He added prayers for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and asked God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss.
