PDP Reacts to Maiduguri Mosque Explosion, Blames Rising Insecurity in Nigeria

Kaduna Blast: What Really Happened at DICON and Why It Could Happen Again

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the deadly explosion that rocked a mosque at Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing it as a grim sign of worsening insecurity across the country.

According to reports, the blast occurred on Wednesday while worshippers were observing prayers inside the mosque. The explosion triggered panic in the bustling market area, as several people were killed and others sustained injuries.

Eyewitness accounts shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed that the explosive device detonated within the mosque, killing some worshippers on the spot and injuring many others.

Following the blast, traders and residents fled the area in fear, while some individuals rushed to help the wounded before emergency personnel arrived. Thick smoke was seen rising from the affected section of the mosque, adding to the chaos.

Reacting to the incident, the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, issued a statement titled “Christmas Eve Explosion: One Too Many.” The opposition party strongly criticized the Federal Government, accusing it of failing in its primary responsibility to safeguard lives and property.

The PDP described the attack as unacceptable, stressing that ensuring citizens’ safety is the most basic duty of any government. The party urged the current administration to move beyond what it called “political rhetoric” and take decisive, practical steps to address the nation’s security challenges.

The party also expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives, noting that no individual should be killed while engaging in religious worship. It warned that continued attacks on places of worship could undermine Nigerians’ constitutional right to freedom of religion and deepen fear within the society.

Calling for urgent action, the PDP appealed to both federal and state authorities to strengthen security measures, especially during the festive season. It emphasized that Nigerians deserve tangible security interventions, not promises, adding that the rising wave of violence has reached an intolerable level and must be addressed with seriousness and urgency.
