Ooni of Ife Pledges Support for Sunday Igboho, Vows to Seek Removal from FG Wanted List

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has sought royal intervention from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, as he battles both legal and financial restrictions imposed by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Igboho, declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS) in July 2021 over allegations of illegal arms possession, paid homage to the Ooni at the Ile-Oodua Palace, Ile-Ife, on Saturday. The activist was accompanied by close allies and supporters during the emotional visit.

Expressing regret for his past criticisms of the monarch, Igboho said, “I want you to forgive and forget whatever wrong I have done to you. You are my father, and you can’t do away with me.”

He urged the Ooni to appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the lifting of the Federal Government ban on his bank accounts and his removal from the wanted persons’ list. He explained that other Yoruba monarchs, including the Olowo of Owo, had advised him to reconcile with the Ooni as a way forward.

Frontpagenews.ng reports that Igboho also used the opportunity to highlight the escalating security crisis in the South-West region. He reiterated his willingness to confront criminal gangs in the forests, stressing that the Yoruba Nation would never succumb to criminal infiltration.

In his response, the Ooni of Ife welcomed Igboho with warmth, describing him as a courageous figure who has endured significant trials. The monarch noted that forgiveness was paramount for peace and assured that efforts would be made to clear Igboho’s name from the Federal Government’s records.

Ooni Ogunwusi said, “Some of you have abused me in the past, but whenever I saw your posts, I just laughed them off. God has blessed Sunday Igboho a lot, and I thank God he didn’t die during his time of tribulation.”

The monarch emphasized that unity, patience, and non-violence were critical for the progress of Yorubaland.
