NSF: Edo’s Mujeeb wins to start his title defense

The 2020 National Sports Festival boxing lightweight champion, Team Edo’s Yunusa Mujeeb, started his title defense at the ongoing 2022 National Sports Festival with a commanding victory over Sunday Ebimi of Bayelsa, according to SATURDAY PUNCH.

All three rounds of the fight were controlled by Mujeeb, and the judges unanimously declared the defending champion the winner, 5-0.

An ecstatic Mujeeb told SATURDAY PUNCH, “I already felt the excitement before getting into the ring because I had worked hard and prepared,” following his victory.

The young fighter praised Ebimi, his opponent, for trying to earn a result as well.

“I felt my opponent’s fighting spirit throughout the fight, which motivated me to work even harder.”

Lucky Oshanugo, Mujeeb’s coach, is ecstatic that his boxer got off to a strong start in his title defense.

“I’m happy for him because this is his first victory at these Games, even though the work hasn’t been easy.” This kind of outcome from the first fight gets you in the right frame of mind, and you can’t afford to lose in the preliminary round, Oshanugo stated.
