Nkechi Drops ₦3 Million iPhone 17 in Water to Prove Authenticity

A Nigerian social media user identified as Nkechi has gone viral after deliberately dropping her iPhone 17 Pro Max, valued at over ₦3 million, into water in a bid to prove its authenticity.

The incident, captured on video and widely circulated online, shows Nkechi submerging the phone in a container of water while it was still powered on.

She claimed the demonstration was necessary to counter claims from skeptics accusing her of using a counterfeit or outdated iPhone model.

“People keep saying it’s not real or it’s an XR. I had to show them,” she said in the clip.

Stunt Sparks Mixed Reactions

While the iPhone 17 Pro Max is built to withstand water exposure thanks to its IP68 rating, Nkechi’s decision to intentionally soak the device drew a range of responses across social media.

Some viewers applauded the bold move, interpreting it as a confident rebuttal to online critics. Others, however, criticized the stunt as unnecessary and excessive, especially given the high cost of the device.

“Imagine risking ₦3 million to prove a point to strangers on the internet,” one user commented.

Used for Content, Not Daily Use

Nkechi later clarified that the iPhone 17 Pro Max is not her primary phone.

According to her, she uses it mostly for content creation and brand demonstrations, especially to promote authentic tech sellers.
