Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has praised Team Nigeria for their achievement at the recently finished Commonwealth Games, saying they brought “great pride” to the nation with their 35 medals.
Nigeria placed seventh in the final standings with a record-breaking 35 medals from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
On Tuesday, August 9, President Muhammadu Buhari posted the thank-you note on his official social media accounts.
“I join millions of Nigerians who love sports both domestically and overseas in celebrating the incredible feats of #TeamNigeria at the 2022 Commonwealth Games #Birmingham2022,” President Buhari wrote.
“I witnessed a few of the competition’s vibrant and amazing moments; Nigeria’s accomplishments have made us extremely proud!”
By setting personal career bests and smashing world, national, and game records, all of our medalists made us grin. particularly our gifted young ladies in powerlifting, wrestling, and athletics.
We take pride in these accomplishments, and the memories will live on in the country for a very long time. Being my final Commonwealth Games as Head of State, this is a memorable occasion and a suitable send-off for me.
Let me also commend the team officials and coaching staff for their dedication to the advancement of Nigerian sports. Their contributions to our athletes’ success on the global stage will be remembered by history. We are all so appreciative! In conclusion, President Muhammadu Buhari said.
Nigeria’s Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, has indicated that President Muhammadu Buhari will host the medalists at a reception in Abuja on an as-yet-unspecified date.
