Zuriel Oduwole, a dedicated advocate for peace, education, and gender equality, has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her global diplomatic efforts and commitment to creating opportunities for marginalised communities.
A Trailblazer in Global Diplomacy
Born in Los Angeles to Nigerian grandparents, Oduwole has actively engaged with world leaders, including presidents and prime ministers, influencing discussions on education access, policy development, and peacebuilding.
Her advocacy work focuses on improving education for underserved communities, promoting systemic change, and ensuring that young voices are included in global conversations.
“At 13 years old, she mediated a territorial dispute between Guyana and Venezuela, meeting with then-President David Granger at the United Nations to emphasize the need for peaceful dialogue,” a statement noted.
In 2020, she also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to discuss peace strategies during the Arab blockade of Qatar, which ended peacefully in 2021.
Early Commitment to Education and Filmmaking
Oduwole’s passion for education reform began when she was nine years old, after witnessing young girls in Accra, Ghana, selling goods on the streets instead of attending school. This experience led her to use documentary filmmaking as a tool to raise awareness about educational barriers and advocate for policy changes.
Her lifelong commitment to education has been central to her mission, believing that education is a fundamental pillar for both development and stability.
As the founder of ‘Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand’, she has worked to empower young people, particularly girls, to advocate for their rights and future opportunities.
