Wini Group has secured support from the Lagos State Government to establish Nigeria’s first university dedicated entirely to Artificial Intelligence (AI). The institution, named Wini University, will be located in Epe and aims to position Nigeria as a global leader in technological innovation and emerging technologies.
Vision for Wini University
The university will serve as a hub for technological advancement, providing Nigerian youths with cutting-edge skills in AI, quantum computing, blockchain, and other emerging fields. According to Wini Group, the initiative seeks to address unemployment by equipping graduates with the expertise to compete in the global AI market.
Support from Lagos State and Traditional Leaders
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed his administration’s full support for the project, aligning it with the state’s vision of becoming a tech and innovation hub in Africa.
Epe’s traditional rulers and community leaders, including HRM Oba Rafiu Balogun, Elejirin of Ejinrin, have also endorsed the initiative. In collaboration with the Lubajo-Egbe and Soje Kingdoms, ancestral lands have been allocated for the university’s permanent site.

Wini University is expected to transform Epe’s economy, transitioning the region from its agrarian roots to a thriving digital economy. The project will create quality job opportunities for youths in the region and significantly boost local economic development.

The initiative draws inspiration from Qatar’s first AI-focused university, which successfully attracted scholars and innovators from around the world, including the United States, Europe, China, and India. Wini University seeks to replicate this success by establishing global partnerships and attracting top-tier scholars to Nigeria.

Wini Group Chairman, Olukayode Akano, credited the vision of Lagos State and President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to economic transformation as key drivers behind the project. Akano emphasized that the university will focus on practical, AI-driven solutions to prepare its students for a technology-driven future.
“Proposed Wini University promises to transform Lagos into a thriving ecosystem of technological advancement, attracting global partnerships, investments, and talent. It focuses on practical AI-driven solutions to prepare its students for the future,” Akano said.
