The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), led by Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, is pushing forward with initiatives to enhance smart education by integrating technology and innovation into Nigeria’s basic education framework. Through its Digital Resource Centre, UBEC is supporting the operation of eleven new Smart Schools across states including Bauchi, Ekiti, Kano, and Oyo, which started their academic year in September 2023.
In a recent two-day workshop hosted by UBEC’s Digital Resource Center, UBEC engaged with 21 Edtech startups and representatives from the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to explore new ways to deliver quality education using advanced tools. The workshop focused on familiarizing educators from Smart Schools with the Edtech ecosystem, emphasizing the role of innovative methods in the 21st-century classroom.
The Digital Resource Center also launched a technical support initiative to assist Smart School teachers through classroom observations and personalized feedback, aiming to improve their instructional skills and professional development. This interactive initiative promotes knowledge-sharing and builds on UBEC’s commitment to quality education, leveraging technology to enhance teaching effectiveness and educational outcomes in Smart Schools nationwide.
