The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a truck driver, Olalere Timileyin, and his motor boy in connection with the death of a man who was reportedly assaulted for allegedly stealing a tarpaulin. The incident occurred on Friday, December 13, 2024, in Obada Oko, Abeokuta.
Details of the Incident
The command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, revealed that the incident was reported by a resident, Alao Fadipe, at around 3 am. Fadipe told the police he observed individuals fighting outside his house and intervened to find Timileyin and his assistant assaulting a man.
According to the report, the suspects, both associated with a cement factory in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, allegedly attacked the man until he lost consciousness.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Following the report, police operatives from the Obada Oko Division promptly responded to the scene and arrested the suspects. The injured man was rushed to the State Hospital in Ijaye for medical attention but tragically passed away during treatment.
“The body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy. The suspects are currently being interrogated, and efforts are underway to locate the deceased’s family,” Odutola stated.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Eleweran, for further investigation.

In light of this incident, the Ogun State Police Command has issued a warning to residents against engaging in street fights or acts of violence that could lead to a breach of public peace, especially during the festive season.
“The command urges all residents to avoid any form of violence and to report disputes or suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” Odutola emphasized.
