Troops of Operation FASAN YANMA successfully repelled an attempted attack by bandits on Gatawa community in Sokoto State’s Sabon Birmi Local Government Area on Tuesday morning. Aminu Boza, a state House of Assembly member representing Sabon Birmi 1, confirmed the development, noting that preliminary information suggested that the bandits, suspected to be affiliated with the camp of wanted bandit leader Bello Turji, suffered significant casualties.
Boza, known for his outspoken stance on insecurity, assured that he would provide more details once network coverage allowed for a complete update. “Our troops dealt with them very massively today,” he stated.
An anonymous source from the 8th Division Army headquarters in Sokoto revealed that such defensive operations are routine for the division’s troops. This latest encounter follows a tragic incident around three months ago, when bandits abducted and killed Gatawa’s district head, Isa Muhammad Bawa, after holding him captive for two weeks.
