Senior Pastor of The Potter’s House in Dallas, Thomas Dexter Jakes, has publicly expressed gratitude for the support and prayers he received following a recent health scare during Sunday’s service. In his first public address after the incident, Jakes acknowledged how fortunate he was, emphasizing that the situation could have ended far worse without divine intervention.

In a video shared on his X account on Thursday, the pastor reflected on the close call, stating, “It didn’t have to end this good. I’m so grateful to you all—the people who prayed, texted, held prayer vigils, and sent love and notes. Thank you.”

Jakes added that while he is not afraid to die, he felt a deep responsibility to his family, church, and calling. “I don’t want to hurt my kids, the people who love me, my church, who needs me, or the world that called me,” he said.

Health Scare Details

The cleric clarified that although he did not suffer a stroke, the health event could have been fatal. He wrote, “I give thanks unto the Lord that I did not have a stroke; however, the event could’ve been fatal if it weren’t for God’s intervention.”

He attributed his health scare to the intense demands of his pastoral responsibilities, sharing that he gave his all in delivering Sunday’s sermon despite sensing physical strain. “I’m reminded that even the strongest must rely on His strength,” he said.

Call for Rest and Reflection

Jakes emphasized the importance of rest and recuperation, stating that honoring the Sabbath and prioritizing recovery are vital. “My job is to recuperate and reflect on God’s protection. I owe it to my amazing family and church members to rest as He restores me towards His service,” he said.

He further added, “Rest is not a weakness—it is a divine gift. Together, we press forward, steadfast in the work the Lord has set before us.”

Outpouring of Support

Jakes expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming support he received from his family, church members, and friends worldwide. “A special thank you to God and the medical professionals in our city whose speed and expertise were beyond exceptional,” he wrote.

He also highlighted the global community’s concern, sharing, “I’ve heard from friends from around the world who expressed God’s love in astonishing ways. I’m forever humbled by your outpouring of love and support.”

Incident Recap

During Sunday’s service, Jakes experienced a health scare that caused him to abruptly stop speaking during a prayer. The microphone slipped from his hand, prompting immediate attention from church staff and an emergency intercessory prayer by the congregation.

The pastor concluded his statement by reiterating his gratitude to God and his commitment to serving his congregation, emphasizing that even moments of vulnerability can strengthen one’s faith and purpose.
