St. Anne’s School, Ibadan, has demonstrated remarkable success in the 2023 International Queen’s Essay Competition, securing two silver and two bronze medals. The competition, which engages secondary schools across Commonwealth nations, aims to foster academic excellence among students. Since joining in 2021, St. Anne’s School has won 11 medals overall: one gold, five silver, and five bronze, establishing itself as a formidable contender in this prestigious contest.
According to Mr. Olarewaju Olateju, one of the coordinators for the school, the alumni association—Seminary St. Anne’s School Old Girls Association (SSASOGA)—was instrumental in bringing the competition to St. Anne’s School. SSASOGA has since provided training resources, support, and encouragement, empowering students to excel at national and international levels. The association has also supported infrastructural improvements, from establishing ICT and science laboratories to offering scholarships and academic programs, such as School on Air, which aid in boosting academic performance.
Dr. Savage Olasunmbo Ajoke, one of the school principals, commended SSASOGA’s contributions, highlighting the visionary leadership of Lady Similola Oluwa Onabanjo in fostering the school’s growth. She emphasized the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, including the state government, Teaching Service Commission, parents’ forum, and school staff, in enhancing the educational environment at St. Anne’s.
The students who participated in the essay competition praised the experience as enriching and expressed appreciation for SSASOGA’s support. National Chairman of SSASOGA’s Education Committee, Pastor Mrs. Adeola Bamgbose, lauded the students’ achievements and assured continued alumni support to meet global standards. During SSASOGA’s recent Annual General Meeting, the alumni recognized and celebrated the success of all Queen’s Essay award recipients, underscoring their commitment to the school’s advancement.
