At a press briefing honoring 14-year-old Isaac Aondoakaa, a former student and current player for Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets at the U-17 AFCON, Babajide Shokoya-Olayinka, Director of Studies at Davidhall College in Ikoyi, urged the sports ministry to focus on grassroots sports development, particularly in schools.
Highlighting Isaac’s journey, Shokoya-Olayinka emphasized the critical role schools play in nurturing young talent, saying, “It is essential to build our sports from the grassroots by adhering to the basic principles of developmental sports.” Aondoakaa, who joined Davidhall College in 2020 on a scholarship from Kakawa Sport, quickly stood out, demonstrating both academic brilliance and athletic promise.
Isaac captained his school team to victory in the Lagos Elite School Cup Competition, defending the title in subsequent editions. Shokoya-Olayinka encouraged private schools to support their talented students in honing their skills, further emphasizing the importance of structured school sports programs in producing future champions for Nigeria.
