Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Owerri, Imo State.
The singer’s counsel, human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest on his X page on Wednesday, revealing that Speed Darlington was taken into custody while performing at a show shortly after his return to Nigeria earlier this week.
“Our client, Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria,” Adeyanju stated.
The specific reason for the arrest remains undisclosed at the time of reporting.
This is not Speed Darlington’s first run-in with the authorities. Earlier, he was detained in Lagos and transferred to Abuja by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team over allegations of cyberstalking fellow musician Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy. He was later released on bail.
