Soldiers in Nigeria’s Southeast region have killed 13 suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during an operation to address rising insecurity.
The operation, which occurred in a remote area, reportedly targeted camps used by IPOB and its militia wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
In a separate operation, three suspected kidnappers were arrested by the military.
The suspects were apprehended following intelligence reports linking them to recent abductions in the region. Security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition, and other incriminating materials during the operations.
The Nigerian Army stated that these actions are part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and restore peace in the Southeast.
They urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and provide information to help address insecurity in the region.
The operations highlight the escalating tensions in the Southeast, where clashes between security forces and IPOB have intensified.
Authorities continue to call for peace and dialogue to resolve ongoing disputes.
