Senate Presidency: Youth Forum Endorses Lawan for Top Position

Ahead of the 9th National Assembly inauguration and the election of presiding officers, the Progressives Youth Forum has thrown its support behind Senate Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yobe North, for Senate President. This endorsement follows a similar move by Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima, who backed Lawan’s bid just a day earlier.

Speaking at Lawan’s campaign office in Abuja, Forum Chairman Ife Adebayo praised Lawan’s qualifications, citing his 20 years of parliamentary experience and his PhD in Remote Sensing. He called Lawan the right person for the job, urging all Senators-elect, regardless of their political affiliations, to rally behind him for a united and progressive Senate.

In his response, Senator Lawan thanked the youth group for their support and promised not to disappoint if elected as Senate President. Addressing concerns about his potential leadership, he assured that while he would work closely with the executive, the Senate under his leadership would not be a rubber stamp. Lawan emphasized that constructive cooperation with other branches of government is crucial for delivering results to the people.

Lawan also pledged that the 9th Senate would be inclusive, welcoming all federal lawmakers irrespective of their party. He stressed that what matters most is the progress of Nigeria and its people, not party affiliations or regional divisions.
