The Senate on Tuesday dedicated its plenary session to honor the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the National Assembly. The solemn session was marked by tributes and ceremonial observances as the legislative body paid its final respects.

The casket bearing the remains of Senator Ubah lay in state at the foyer of the White House wing, directly in front of the Senate Chamber. The day’s order paper featured only one item: “Valedictory Session,” underscoring the significance of the occasion.

In a poignant display of respect, Senate President Godswill Akpabio wore traditional Isi-Enyi attire, complemented by a red cap and dark sunglasses. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele similarly donned Isi-Agwu attire. Among the notable attendees were Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige, and former Senator Uche Ekwunife, representing Anambra Central.

The wives of presiding and principal Senate officers were also present, including Ekaette Akpabio, wife of the Senate President; Hajiya Jibrin Barau, wife of the Deputy Senate President; and Oluyemisi Bamidele, wife of the Senate Leader.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, led a delegation of House leaders in a solemn procession around Senator Ubah’s casket, further emphasizing the late senator’s impact across legislative chambers.

The atmosphere in the Senate was somber as senators reflected on Ubah’s contributions to the legislative body. His service and dedication were lauded during the session, which served as a heartfelt farewell to a respected lawmaker.
