The Rivers State Police Command has detained three female inspectors on charges of extorting motorists at the Rumuokoro area in Obio/Akpor Local Government. The arrest, which took place on Tuesday, followed public complaints shared widely on social media regarding the officers’ actions.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, the three inspectors—identified as Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau—were apprehended during a coordinated monitoring patrol conducted by the Commissioner of Police’s Monitoring Unit. Iringe-Koko noted that video evidence captured by a bystander confirmed the illegal actions of the officers, which were reportedly performed while out of uniform.
The arrest took place around 3 pm on October 29, 2024, as the inspectors were observed extorting money from innocent motorists under the Rumuokoro Flyover. The officers were immediately searched on site, and the money taken from motorists was recovered.
“The officers are currently detained and awaiting disciplinary measures,” stated Iringe-Koko, emphasizing the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption. She assured the public that the Rivers State Police remains dedicated to professional integrity and will hold any personnel accountable for misconduct.
